Fool’s Gold (2008) – Review

The re-teaming of stars Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson results in a pleasantly diverting 90 minutes. The script has the two leads cast as newly divorced treasure hunters searching for sunken Spanish gold lost centuries ago somewhere in the Caribbean. Director Andy Tennant best known for the smash –‘HITCH’, brings a light comic touch and assured direction to the proceedings. The exotic tropical locations are handsomely photographed by veteran DP Don Burgess. Adding to the fun in supporting roles is Donald Sutherland (well cast) as an aging billionaire and Alexis Dziena who’s excellent as a ditzy Paris Hilton-type heiress. Only faults are the inclusion of an out of place rapper/murderer and the plight of his goons. However, the film overcomes this and turns out to be a breezy good-time with attractive people in beautiful places.
