The Fast and the Furious (2001) – Review
April 30, 2011 in Action, Reviews

Within this b-movie wrapper is some surprisingly well played scenes, fast action and a fun story to boot. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker make a great on screen team. As the title suggests this movie is all about testosterone, harkening back to the days of straight action fare.
Walker plays Brian O’Conner, an undercover cop, who infiltrates a Los Angeles street racing gang to bust a group of hijackers. Losing himself in this new world, his loyalties are called into question when his new street racing friends (Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster) become the prime suspects.
Rob Cohen knows his audience well, directing this film for the masses of young viewers and working-class folks who are guaranteed to be filling the seats. Without dumbing down the narrative he delivers a high-octane story that is easy to get into and a blast to watch. When the film does slow down for necessary moments, the cast keeps the level of work up and makes the personal scenes as mesmerizing as the stunts.
Spawning four sequels, this is surely the gift that keeps on giving to Universal and fans. Definitely worth checking out.
