MILF (2010) – Review

3 Stars

Hands down the funniest movie the Asylum has produced to date. It seems that every comedy they make keeps getting slightly better than the last. Director Scott Wheeler and writer Jonathan Haug pull off great comic timing often punctuated with single line jokes that had me laughing the whole way through. As always I am issuing a warning that this is an un-rated teen sex comedy. Nudity and strong sexual content run rampant here, as to be expected from a film titled MILF.

The story centers around two friends and their close knit group of pals. Anthony accidentally walks in on Jack’s mom undressing (to be fair all the girls get naked in this film, there’s even a scene when a breast just falls out of a girl’s blouse, in this movie’s universe it’s practically guaranteed everyone will see everyone’s mom naked at some point). After which he confesses to seeing her naked and offers to make amends anyway Jack sees fit. Jack will have nothing to do with it and pawns Anthony off on their two friends Nate and Ross. Unfortunately he soon finds himself in a similar predicament when Anthony’s mom comes onto him. Naturally Jack becomes sexually involved with her and the comedy starts rolling. A running gag includes Anthony finding naked pictures and videos of his mother and getting aroused, but without her head in the frame he has no clue as to her true identity. The rest of the group also discovers that older women are easy targets and more than willing. They make a bet to see who can score the most milf (one thing you’ll learn from this movie is the plural of milf is milf, mom(s) I’d like to f***, so there is an “educational” value here as well). This plays out to many laughs as they become swamped with too many cougars who are insane in the boudoir.

Pulling from the classic MILF movie The Graduate, whilst Jack is shacking up with Anthony’s mom, he’s also met and somewhat fallen for a girl his own age. As his chances greaten and the chemistry between the two heats up, everything gets blown wide open. MILF is heavy on comedy, poking fun at all it’s characters (sometimes at the risk of being mean spirited), but it does have a softer side as well.

Jack Cullison and Philip Marlatt slide easily into the roles of Jack and Anthony, bringing a truth to the friendship that shows through on the screen. Joseph Booton and Ramon Camacho round out the group and their side adventures are some of the funniest in the film. Jamie Bernadette plays Jack’s younger love interest Alex. She tackles the role with a certain sweetness and coy that you can’t help but fall for her, especially with a smile that is reminiscent of a young Katie Holmes.

If you’re looking for a strong teen sex comedy with lots of gags and laughs, don’t pass this one up.
