The Reason Why a Schwarzenegger-less Reboot Never Works
By Jason Rugaard | Tuesday, July 20th, 2010
After returning home from a screening of the newly rebooted ‘Predators’ I sat down to write a review for my column and realized, that I was absolutely indifferent to the film. While the picture was playing I enjoyed it, but the minute I left the theater a faint sadness drifted over me. I’d been sucked in to paying for a sub-par ‘re-imagining’ of one of my favorite films. To be fair, this current ‘reboot’ was far superior to the absurd ‘AVP’ and the repulsive ‘AVP2′. It’s probably the best sequel to the original film. However Adrian Brody and Laurence Fishburne – Continue reading…
TV Dads That Deserve Their Own Shows
By Trevor Anderson | Tuesday, May 11th, 2010
In television dads are kings. Some shows they are the good-guys, in others the bad-guys. Either way they are more often driven to their actions out of love and protection. Father roles are frequently used to move the story along, inject some much needed drama and add a strong moral center for the main character. One things for sure, show creators love dads. But what happens when their sons and daughters are all grown up? Here are just a few supporting dad roles that deserve to be spun off into their own shows. Let us know who you thought was – Continue reading…

10. THE SANDLOT (1993) – This unlikely box-office hit is fondly remembered by children of the nineties and their baby boomer parents. The film is set in the early 60’s and tells the story of a new kid to the neighborhood and his need for acceptance. This eventually comes through his experiences on the sandlot baseball field. Anyone familiar with the plight of retrieving a ball from a neighbor’s backyard will recognize the authenticity director David Evans infuses into this great film.
9. BLEACHER BUMS (2001) – Based on script written in 1979 for the stage, the entire film – Continue reading…
DIY Film Distribution: How Albert Pyun Is Ditching The Studios
By Trevor Anderson | Saturday, March 27th, 2010
- A Man And His Camera -
In the early 90s indie films were all the rage. The idea of anyone being able to pick up a cheap video camera and make a movie fluttered through the heads of many. In fact some speculated that this could bring the studios down a peg and create a new film market. Twenty years later that has yet to be seen. Sure there have been huge success stories like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. Heck even 28 Days Later proved that making a movie with video and having it look professional was – Continue reading…
Where Is The Dick Tracy Sequel?
By Jason Rugaard | Friday, February 12th, 2010
-The Trouble With Dick-
Twenty years have passed since the 1990 release of Disney’s adaption of Dick Tracy. At the time it was well received by critics and a commercial smash, grossing $103 million or the equivalent of $220 million in today’s adjusted dollars. The accompanying soundtrack, compiled largely of songs by Madonna, sold over 2 million units. A successful toy line was launched, including a copy cat ‘two way radio’ wristwatch for kids. Promotional tie-ins with Macdonald’s and a high profile Barbara Walter’s interview of Beatty aided in creating a massive amount of hype in the months leading up – Continue reading…
Avatar DVD Screener Leaked! Will It Matter?
By Trevor Anderson | Tuesday, February 9th, 2010
A few days after the Oscar nominations were posted to the Internet, something else followed. A pirated dvd screener of Avatar, the highest grossing film of all time, became available for download. Many are speculating that the screener came from within the academy. With a take already up to $2 billion worldwide, can this free high quality download inflict any damage?
Probably not enough to notice.
- Box Office Pains -
Piracy usually takes place earlier on in a film’s theatrical run, rarely do they surface two months into its release. Granted there have already been downloads of Avatar available online, but – Continue reading…

Gladiator
The last time I remember being excited about the Oscars was 2001, the year that Gladiator won for best picture. This movie has it all, war, revenge and bloodsport. But it also has an amazing score that compliments the – Continue reading…
Captain America: The Reboot Avenger
By Trevor Anderson | Friday, February 5th, 2010
Captain America has existed on celluloid in many forms. It was adapted to a 1944 serial, then a 1979 made for tv movie and finally a feature film in 1990. Now it’s back to the silver screen for the Cap, slated for a 2011 release. But what ever happened to that ill received 1990 version? It was recently the #1 video on Hulu! (Watch It Here) This free to view release is obviously a way to get Captain America back into the minds of the masses, but what does its acclaimed b-movie director Albert Pyun think about his film’s new – Continue reading…
Death Of The Movie Star – R.I.P. (1920-2009)
By Jason Rugaard | Monday, February 1st, 2010
Take a look at the top five grossing films of the year.
1. AVATAR
2. TRANSFORMERS 2
3. HARRY POTTER
4. TWILIGHT: NEW MOON
5. UP
Did you happen to notice there isn’t a ‘Marquee’ name amongst them? Sure people are familiar with the name Daniel Radcliff, and Robert Pattison. Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner are famous, but none are ‘Movie Stars’. The appeal of most of 2009’s biggest hits were the films themselves. Whether it was the CGI spectacle of ‘Transformers 2’ , the 3D worlds of ‘AVATAR’, the love triangle in ‘New Moon’, or the ridiculous comedic situations in ‘The Hangover’. Audiences went to – Continue reading…
Warner And Netflix Sitting In A Tree… KISSING
By Trevor Anderson | Sunday, January 31st, 2010
Warner has won the first battle against consumers. That’s right, Warner Bros is trying to force you to buy rather than rent. Warner will now supply Netflix with many older catalog movies for their streaming now service. In return Netflix won’t rent any new Warner titles until 28 days after they go on sale. At the time of this post this deal has already gone into effect.
Does Warner really think that because I have to wait to rent White Out that I am instead going to buy it? And does Netflix really believe that I needed Goonies so badly on – Continue reading…
3D TVs – The Wave Of The Future?
By Trevor Anderson | Sunday, January 31st, 2010
Now that Avatar has hit $2 billion world wide it seems only fitting to bring the technology that made it a hit into the living room. Television manufacturers have recently announced that 3d tvs will be available in the near future. And these things will cost a pretty penny.
The real question here is how many people currently watch a lot of 3d dvds anyhow? The red and blue glasses are fine for every once in awhile viewing. Oh and they don’t cost fifty to a hundred dollars a pair. The cost to outfit the whole family for 3d viewing glasses – Continue reading…
