Big Fan (2009) – Review

Where to watch Big Fan

3 1/2 Stars

Paul Aufiero is a late 30’s loner still living with his mom in NY. His only joy comes from calling into a late night sports radio show, to defend his beloved GIANTS. After a chance encounter with the team’s star player goes terribly wrong, Paul’s life begins to unravel. The film marks the directing debut of Robert D. Siegel, OSCAR nominee for 2008’s ‘THE WRESTLER’.  Once again working from an original screenplay, the picture feels authentic in its deception of isolation and obsession. Strong direction helps to navigate extreme changes in narrative tone, ranging from laugh-out loud funny to a dark, tense TAXI DRIVER-like climax. Well written and acted, it stayed with me for days afterwards.

Director: Robert D. Siegel
