The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Official iPhone/iPad Map App – Dragon Shout

November 29, 2011 in Movie Blog, Video Game News

submit to reddit

Anyone who’s played The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim knows just how intimidatingly large the world map can be. Fast travel markers make it possible to keep track of most of the places you’ve visited, but not all. So, what happens when you find an awesome location that you want to revisit later? Well, you need to either write it down somewhere or mark up a physical map of the world. The game itself has no feature for keeping track of these places.

Enter, Dragon Shout. A free iOS app designed help players keep track of the areas they’ve traveled in Skyrim. The app features an interactive map of the world for players to mark and annotate as they see fit. Eventually, the app will also allow players to share their markers and journal entries with others around the world. Dragon Shout has no official release date, but sources indicate that the app should be available within the next few days. An Andriod app is also rumored to be in production, although there have been no official comments on the subject.

Check out the official Dragon Shout website for more information.

How to Get a High Kill/Death Ratio (K/D ratio) in Uncharted 3 Multiplayer

November 23, 2011 in Movie Blog, Video Game News

submit to reddit

In a game like Uncharted 3, kill/death ratio is often a very overrated statistic. Sure, great players have many more kills than deaths, but sometimes in a match you need to make personal sacrifices to cement the win for your team. Nevertheless, players want to know how achieve a higher ranking and become the big man on campus.

If you ask how to improve your K/D ratio on the internet you’ll usually get one of the following sarcastic responses:

  • Play with a large party, so you can gang up on the less organized players!
  • Rage quit any time you’re having a bad game, so the stats won’t count!
  • Equip the KAL 7 w/ Blindfire Accuracy and forget your L1 button exists!
  • Camp constantly and kill steal from your teammates!
  • Learn to exploit overpowered kickbacks like Quickboom!
  • Make sure you’re lagging so you’ll appear invincible to the other team!

Honestly, since Naughty Dog is still ironing out the bugs in the game there is a lot of truth to these comments. To combat all the trolling, however, I thought I’d suggest seven legitimate ways to help improve your K/D ratio.

Nurtured in the mind since the 90′s and born into reality in early 2005, Reef Entertainment is based in new offices near the city of Milton Keynes. Established as a UK based computer games publishing company, Reef has been set up as a UK based independent studio-style organization, not owned by or connected to any other major entertainment group, to provide developers and content owners with a distinct and alternate route to markets worldwide. We had the opportunity to speak with Craig Lewis, Reef Entertainment’s Commercial Director (UK) and discuss the development and release of the new Rambo video game.

Kevin: What inspired your company to get involved with a project like Rambo? Was it inspired by the release of the recent Rambo film in 2008 or was it inspired by the overall nostalgia for the franchise as a whole?

Craig Lewis: There are many people here at Reef including Peter and myself who love the Rambo movies. The power of the brand was clear when we gave our first press release on this title, it simply went mad. Since new investment has been placed in Reef, we have been keen to grow both the company and also the size of the projects we are doing, and Rambo will clearly put us on the map!

Sony Pictures, the studio behind the Spider-Man films, is hoping to acquire the rights to produce a new 3D film based on the popular video game Assassin’s Creed. Varity reports that negotiations between Sony and Ubisoft (the publisher/developer of the game) are nearing completion. Ubisoft has been shopping the project to studios over the past several months.

Sony apparently sees potential in converting popular video game franchises into blockbuster movies. The studio has already obtained the rights to Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Sucker Punch’s InFamous series.

Ubisoft hopes all its popular titles can one day become popular films.

“As we’ve stated before, Ubisoft is actively looking for film opportunities for our top brands,” the Ubisoft spokeswoman said. “There is high interest from top Hollywood studios to collaborate on these brands.”

The Assassin’s Creed series which has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, takes place throughout various historical periods including the Renaissance and the Crusades. The series is usually recognized by its famous hooded hero pictured above.

With the release of the Batman: Arkham City video game just around the corner, developers have once again added another villain from the DC Universe to the already large cast. The sharpshooting villain Deadshot will now set his sights on Batman in the highly anticipated upcoming title. Although little known to the general public, Floyd Lawton AKA. Deadshot is an interesting character who matches up nicely with The Caped Crusader. Deadshot an expert marksman who claims to have never missesd a shot (hence the name, Deadshot), will certainly be an interesting foe for Batman to tango with in Arkham City. Deadshot is normally recognized by the gleaming mask of steel that covers his entire face. For the game, however, the design team has opted to build on the gritty feel they have already developed, substituting the metal mask for a more workmanlike leather mask.

Captain America: Super Soldier (2011) – Video Game – Trailer

July 11, 2011 in Movie Blog, Trailers, Video Game News, Videos

submit to reddit

Captain America: Super Soldier video game is set to be released Tuesday, July 19. Although early buzz for the game seemed promising, the clips released in March told a different story. The gameplay video featured a bland environment, coupled by tons of similar looking bad guys. Unfortunately, reports from E3 did little to change that opinion. Still, despite all this I’m hoping the developers are saving some surprises for the official release. As of now, however, Captain America: Super Soldier looks to recreate the same dull third person action that we’d expect from a movie tie-in. This is unfortunate because America’s hero deserves so much more.

Personally I’d like to see something more than just upgradable powers and beat ‘em up action. Really, anything unique that could set this game apart from other comic book/movie tie-ins would be a breath of fresh air. As far as I can tell the combat looks like a knock-off of Batman: Arkham Asylum, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing as long as the game has its own identity. For now we can only cross our fingers and hope for a pleasant surprise.

Check out the trailer below while you wait for the official release next week.
