Finally in 2013 we are getting a few classics that truly deserve the 3D and big screen re-release treatment, Top Gun and Jurassic Park are both high on my most anticipated list. A few years back I had the chance to see Top Gun on the big screen for the first time since 1986. It is a movie that commands the silver screen and deserves to be shown on the large IMAX format. Catch this for six days only starting Feb 8th-13th 2013, before its Blu-ray 3D release the following Tuesday. If you have any sort of love for Top Gun, do yourself a favor and seek it in the Cinema, it won’t disappoint. In the meantime check-out this beautifully constructed trailer that was set for release last year as evident by the 2012 icon, oddly this incarnation is increasingly rare to find and has been replaced with a generic trailer that is more a commercial for the Blu-ray. Enjoy and get your asses to theaters!
I can’t wait for the Arnold one-liners and just to get back to some basic action flicks makes me feel like going to the theaters more often. Seeing that name and knowing it’s not just a cameo feels right. Wish the guy never got into politics, imagine what movies we could have gotten. Also he wouldn’t have let himself go so much. Regardless I’m a Schwarzenegger fan (if you couldn’t tell) and definitely catching this one in theaters on January 18, 2013.
It looks like Adkins is playing one of these sleeper agents, and must travel to find Deveraux in order to discover why they did this to him. If you remember a while back we posted some odd pictures of JCVD from the set (also check out these pics), and now we know why he looked like part of the Insane Clown Posse. Deveraux is running a cult, and dressed the part.
The action looks great, this reminds me of straight to video 90’s fare, and Adkins has a great fan base for these types of flicks so his inclusion was smart. The fights also look cool, Adkins matches up against Dolph and Van Damme at what looks like separate points in the film. Lundgren gets an “and” in his title, so I imagine he’s only making a small appearance here, which is unfortunate but I’m sure he steals a scene or two as always.
Curiously the film is the first in the series to be shot and released in 3D. Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning will be available on Video On Demand October 25, 2012 and then in a limited theatrical run on November 30, 2012.
Word on the street is director Barry Sonnenfeld went into production on this flick without an ending. Thinking back on the first two in this franchise it probably won’t make any difference, these movies are all about the ride and not the destination. This looks and feels like a Men in Black movie, comfortable in its jokes and catch phrases it does justice to the older films. I’m looking forward to this, makes me feel like it’s 1997 all over again. Check out the full feature trailer below and let us know what you think.
Admittedly after the somewhat boring walking adventure that was Clash of the Titans this sequel has been off my radar for a reason. But as its March 30, 2012 release date creeps up on us I decidedly to check it out. Wrath of the Titans is what Clash should have been. Amazing monsters, exciting action and even a little bit of an 80’s throwback look surprised and delighted me. These monsters kick the crap out of the titans from the first. Check it out below and let us know if you’ll give Perseus one more shot.
Finally Adam Sandler is getting back to basics again with That’s My Boy. Originally titled I Hate You Dad, the comedy is about a dead beat heavy partying dad who burns through all his cash and looks up his rich son. Bringing in a tried and true concept of opposites colliding ensuing in hilarity Sandler’s father character crashes into his son’s (Andy Samberg) life at the most inopportune time, he’s about to get hitched. This no doubt leads to some crude jokes that are heavily softened by some extremely sentimental moments (I’m sure Sandler’s character realizes he really loves his son, and vice-versa for Samberg). This is classic simple Sandler and I’m glad to see this easily summed up in a one line synopsis. Check it out below and let us know what you think.
Sorry to all those fan boys out there, but this trailer still doesn’t sell me on this. I’m a huge Joss Whedon fan so I am holding out a little hope that The Avengers will assemble instead of fall apart. The parts I don’t look forward to in this film are the infighting crap between the heroes, I feel like we already went through an origin story for these guys and now we have to go through another one here. I don’t really understand why learning to work together has become such a big theme with ensemble or buddy action flicks like this. They should have gone a more Expendables route and they’re all cool except maybe one instead of all loose cannons. The concept of all these bigger than life characters coming together is already a tad on the ridiculous side, why call attention to it with a pissing contest? And those infighting sequences are always such throw away scenes that never further the story. I would like to see Hawk Eye featured in at least one trailer though, how does he fit into all of this? Check it out below and let us know what you think.
