Funny and Touching Pre-Apocalyptic Comedy Trailer for ‘Seeking a Friend for the End of the World’

February 22, 2012 in Trailers, Videos

submit to reddit

Starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley this comedy is set in the near future when an impending asteroid will crash into the Earth destroying all hope for life. How will people react to this news and what will they do in their last fleeting moments of living? This movie looks to explore these aspects of the end of the world in a charming, touching and comedic fashion. These types of movies are perfect for Carell, and Knightley seems to play opposite him comfortably. As a big fan of post-apocalyptic movies, I can’t wait to catch this pre-apocalyptic flick. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.

Set in a too-near future, the movie explores what people will do when humanity’s last days are at hand. As the respective journeys of Dodge (Carell) and Penny (Knightley) converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten.

7500 – Trailer

I thought we had hit the cinematic zenith when Snakes on a Plane premiered. Now it looks like those Japanese filmmakers have upped the ante yet again. 7500 looks like Ghosts on a Plane, at least this trailer is compelling with a few identifiable faces sprinkled throughout (is that turtle from Entourage?). The offical synopsis is a light read…

Passengers aboard a flight across the Pacific Ocean encounter a supernatural force.

Watch the Unbelievably Action Packed ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ Trailer

So we’ve been hearing a little bit about Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter here and there, with some photos that were published last week (New Pics From Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter) that had the potential of the makings of a good flick. After watching this trailer I’d say this is going to be a fun action packed ride. Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter opens in theaters on June 22, 2012. Based on the book by Seth Grahame-Smith, who also wrote the script, it stars Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jimmi Simpson (awesome!), Robin McLeavy, Alan Tudyk (yeah!) and Rufus Sewell. Check it out below and let us now what you think!

President Lincoln’s mother is killed by a supernatural creature, which fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers.

The Bourne Legacy (2012) – Trailer

Tony Gilroy moves from series screenwriter to director on this fourth film in the lucrative Bourne franchise. Universal pictures couldn’t lure star Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass back for another installment so they went in a new direction and cast Jeremy Renner in the lead. While this is not a direct sequel to the previous trilogy it is in the ‘vein’ of the Robert Ludlum novels.

Watch Sarah Palin Take on Nazis From the Moon in the ‘Iron Sky’ Trailer

February 8, 2012 in Trailers, Videos

submit to reddit

I just can’t tell if this will be a fun campy movie, or just a fun idea gone awry. It does look like they spent some money and had some talent behind the special effects, but this trailer plays like Mars Attacks! mixed with Sucker Punch and a dash of Sky Captain, which is a strange concoction to say the least. I’m not sure when to take it seriously and when to laugh, which often times results in disbelief as to what’s unfolding before my eyes. This movie was somewhat crowd funded, but they also crowd sourced by allowing fans to join in via Wreckamovie and submit content and creative ideas, which explains the outlandish plot line. Regardless this is one trailer you can’t miss, check out the synopsis below (it’s unbelievable) and then watch the trailer. Who do you think will win this war, the Sarah Palin lookalike or the Nazis?

In the last moments of World War II, a secret Nazi space program evaded destruction by fleeing to the Dark Side of the Moon. During 70 years of utter secrecy, the Nazis construct a gigantic space fortress with a massive armada of flying saucers.

When American astronaut James Washington (Christopher Kirby) puts down his Lunar Lander a bit too close to the secret Nazi base, the Moon Führer (Udo Kier) decides the glorious moment of retaking the Earth has arrived sooner than expected. Washington claims the mission is just a publicity stunt for the President of the United States (Stephanie Paul), but what else could the man be but a scout for the imminent attack by Earth forces? The Fourth Reich must act!

Two Nazi officers, ruthless Klaus Adler (Götz Otto) and idealistic Renate Richter (Julia Dietze), travel to Earth to prepare the invasion. In the end when the Moon Nazi UFO armada darkens the skies, ready to strike at the unprepared Earth, every man, woman and nation alike, must re-evaluate their priorities.

‘Archetype’ Battle Robot Short Film, or the Best 7 Minutes I’ve Spent on YouTube All Year

February 7, 2012 in Trailers, Videos

submit to reddit

The best way to describe Archetype is District 9 meets Blade Runner. In a lot of ways it’s very reminiscent of Neill Blomkamp’s original District 9 short film as well, and I could easily see this getting picked up and expanded to feature length. In any case it would make for a great KickStarter campaign video (hint hint). I would definitely go out to see this. The movie’s technically only five minutes, the last two being credits, but if you keep watching they do feature some cool concept art.

Here’s some words from Archetype creator and director Aaron Sims…

This project was a labor of love, and so many talented, hard-working people helped in making it come to life. “Archetype” would not have been possible without all the talented individuals who contributed their time and skill, and I thank them – each and every one.

Please tell everyone you know to watch the short; the more people and positive responses we receive (and even likes on the YouTube page that we get) make a difference. With your help, we can hopefully get the feature version made – so Tweet, Facebook…get the word out!

The Amazing Spider-Man Web Spinning Trailer

February 7, 2012 in Trailers, Videos

submit to reddit

I’ll have to admit that the thought of rehashing Spider-Man from the beginning again is daunting and too soon. This trailer does look good in spite of that. It proves to me that this may be worth another look, and although not spine tingling, it does serve up some excitement. Setting the time frame back before the Raimi films was a smart move, this film seems to shed that world with ease and allow for a similar, but slightly mutated view instead. I also suspected that Andrew Garfield was a bad choice, after viewing this those suspicions have been put to rest. With a voice that fits the character, and the gangly body of a teenage boy that could easily adapt to the gymnastic requirements of being Spider-Man, Garfield seems to play right into the role. Action, suspense, drama and web spinning, what more could you ask for? Emma Stone? She’s in there too.

Summer Vacation Poster

The newest trailer from Mel Gibson’s recently retitled action thriller Get the Gringo is better than expected. I was hoping that this would be the film that could possibly reinvigorate Gibson’s fading star. Unfortunately that looks unrealistic as this movie will skip a theatrical run and debut on VOD. Is it a smart move? Gibson the producer, co-writer and star is betting on it. No one can dismiss the fact that he has had tremendous success marketing films in an unusual manner in the past. It’ll be interesting to see how the returns are for arguably the highest profile film ever to premiere in homes this summer.

Resident Evil: Retribution 3D (2012) – Trailer

January 19, 2012 in Trailers, Videos

submit to reddit

After the unimpressive (oh hell, I outright hated it) Resident Evil: Afterlife, this movie looks to follow the tone set by that predecessor. Resident Evil: Retribution seems like a strange amalgamation of past zombie flicks. There’s even a shot in this trailer that’s reminiscent of the beginning of 2004′s Dawn of the Dead, this movie will play more into Alice’s mysterious past.

I will say that Paul WS Anderson is good with action, it’s just the story that’s not his strong point, and when he fails at it, he fails hard. To be fair I didn’t see Afterlife in 3D in theaters, I saw it at home on 2D DVD. Jason has told me that the 3D theatrical experience really made that movie, and I’m guessing the same will hold true for Retribution.

This will be the second major franchise that Michelle Rodriguez returns to after 2009′s Fast & Furious. Both of those franchises went on without her character for a few films, going by this standard she should also return in Avatar 4 in 2020. Regardless check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.

The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

Safe (2012) – Trailer

Jason Statham (the hardest working man in showbiz) is back in what appears to be a violent variation of The Pacifier or The Sitter. But hey, you have to hand it to the guy for not getting all Disney on us. Safe is directed by longtime ace director Boaz Yakin (The Punisher, Fresh). This trailer looks great and I appreciate Statham staying right in his wheel house as for his career choices. Safe will be released on April 27th 2012, not to be confused with Denzel Washington’s Safe House. Official synopsis and trailer below…

A second-rate cage fighter on the mixed martial arts circuit, Luke Wright lives a numbing life of routine beatings and chump change… until the day he blows a rigged fight. Wanting to make an example of him, the Russian Mafia murders his family and banishes him from his life forever, leaving Luke to wander the streets of New York destitute, haunted by guilt, and tormented by the knowledge that he will always be watched, and anyone he develops a relationship with will also be killed.

But when he witnesses a frightened twelve-year-old Chinese girl, Mei, being pursued by the same gangsters who killed his wife, Luke impulsively jumps to action…and straight into the heart of a deadly high-stakes war. Mei, he discovers, is no ordinary girl, but an orphaned math prodigy forced to work for the Triads as a counter. He discovers she holds in her memory a priceless numerical code that the Triads, the Russian mob and a corrupt faction of the NYPD will kill for.

Denzel Washington is back in another action/drama this time though he’s paired with Ryan Reynolds. The trailer is much better than I had expected, especially after seeing the lame one-sheet poster in my local cinema. This spot features action, intelligent dialogue and a hint that Washington’s character may be more than he seems at first glance. Safe House looks like a serious contender for an early year hit, much like The Book of Eli a few years back. Look for Safe House to invade theaters on 2/10/12.

Bring Me the Head of Lance Henriksen – Trailer

January 5, 2012 in Movie Blog, Movie News, Trailers, Videos

submit to reddit

There hasn’t been any small budget stuff I’ve been looking forward to in 2012, until I saw this trailer. This I want to see. This is essentially a mock-umentary about aging actors who are finding their current careers are on very rocky roads.

When 80s B-movie icon Tim Thomerson wakes up one day to realize the acting roles are not coming his way any more, he sets out on a quest to find his former co-star Lance Henriksen to discover his secret of Hollywood longevity and gets more than he bargained for in the process.

Seems pretty current with SAG trying to get IMDb to stop posting birth dates, citing agism as a factor for actors losing work, and with the lady suing IMDb over this same issue.

Thomerson, who in his old age resembles a strange cross between Eric Roberts and Leslie Nielsen, looks to entertain in this. You may remember him from some (of my favorite) Full Moon flicks such as Dollman, Dollman vs. Demonic Toys, Trancers 1, 2, 3, 4 … 5, and a few Albert Pyun flicks as well such as Nemesis and Brain Smasher, currently his IMDb list is at 190 items including TV and movies. His comedic timing is surprisingly good, and his expressive brow beat looks are comedy gold. This trailer had me laughing, and should be a must see for B-movie schlock fans and behind-the-scenes movie lovers alike. Check out the trailer below, then let us know what you think. The Expendables 2 (2012) – Teaser Trailer

Once The Expendables opened to 34 million dollars in August of 2010, a sequel was immediately given the green light. A few shakeups ensued resulting in veteran action director Simon West coming aboard and relieving Stallone of the duties. I have to admit I’m a hugh Stallone fan but even I thought The Expendables could have been ‘more’. Especially since Rambo was such a balls out good time. However this teaser trailer looks fantastic, I love seeing the names and familiar faces they’ve assembled this time out. Plus, you got to enjoy Crome-domed Bruce Willis spouting off bad-ass lines to the top screen bad-assess. Expect explosions at the box office when Expendables 2 hits theaters 8/17/2012.

Animated Trailer Madness – Pixar’s Brave – Ice Age: Continental Drift – Happy Feet Two

November 17, 2011 in Movie Blog, Movie News, Trailers, Videos

First off we have the new trailer for Pixar’s Brave. Looks like a beautiful film, a little more adult and actiony like The Incredibles, should be good. Next up we have the continuation of Scrat’s adventures in the Ice Age: Continental Drift teaser trailer shorts. While not true trailers these fun and clever outings are just as good. I’ve also included the original teaser here so you can see where this starts from if you missed it. Finally there’s the Happy Feet Two trailer. I wasn’t a huge fan of the first film, and it looks like numero dos is more of the same. It’s a little too childish for my tastes, but Robin Williams does sound funny and Brad Pitt and Matt Damon’s shrimpish krill look to draw smiles as well.

Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor. Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin, surly Lord Macintosh and cantankerous Lord Dingwall. Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.

Scrat’s nutty pursuit of the cursed acorn, which he’s been after since the dawn of time, has world-changing consequences – a continental cataclysm that triggers the greatest adventure of all for Manny, Diego and Sid. In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny, and the herd encounters a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home.

Watch Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen in the Mirror, Mirror Trailer

November 15, 2011 in Movie Blog, Movie News, Trailers, Videos

submit to reddit

After seeing Charlize Theron turn in a mesmerizing performance as the evil queen in the amazing trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman watching Julia Roberts overact in a ridiculous comedy as the same character is almost gut wrenching. Mirror, Mirror looks like a porno from the 70′s, and the bad acting mixed with horrid dialogue doesn’t help. I can’t see one reason why anyone would be interested in watching this. Strange just how different this is from director’s Tarsem Singh other works The Cell, The Fall and Immortals. With Mirror, Mirror he seems to really be embracing a Bollywood style, there are several instances with flashy garments, dancing and especially the opening music. Strange that the first trailer for this would choose to focus on the evil queen as well. Could we be seeing identical marketing campaign’s down the line for both Mirror, Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman? I hope so, it will be interesting to see who truly is the fairest of them all with a level playing field. Although Mirror, Mirror has a lot of catching up to do on poster artwork (also notice there’s no title on this trailer) whereas S.W. and the Huntsman has done a bang up job on all different types of posters, including character posters and banners. But in the end this is just too goofy and would seem more at home on the Hallmark channel than on theater screens.

Relativity’s Mirror Mirror is a spectacular reimagining of the classic fairy tale starring Oscar winner Julia Roberts as the Queen, Lily Collins as Snow White, Armie Hammer as Prince Alcott, Sean Bean as the King and Nathan Lane as the Queen’s hapless and bungling servant, Brighton. An evil queen steals control of a kingdom and an exiled princess enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright in a spirited adventure comedy filled with jealousy, romance and betrayal that will capture the imagination of audiences the world over.

Visionary director Tarsem Singh rewrites fairy tale history as a wicked enchantress (Roberts) schemes and scrambles for control of a spirited orphan’s (Collins) throne and the attention of a charming prince (Hammer). When Snow White’s beauty wins the heart of the prince that she desperately pursues, the Queen banishes her to the forest, where a ravening man-eating beast hungrily awaits.

Rescued by a band of diminutive highway robbers, Snow White grows into an indomitable young woman determined to take back her realm from the treacherous Queen. With the support of her subjects, she roars into action in an epic battle that blends spectacle, magic and contemporary humor in Singh’s signature, jaw-dropping visual style.

Watch Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in Action in The Hunger Games Full Trailer

November 14, 2011 in Movie Blog, Movie News, Trailers, Videos

submit to reddit

I really enjoyed both Battle Royale flicks, and The Hunger Games looks to excite just as easily. Jennifer Lawrence has given amazing performances in Winter’s Bone and X-Men: First Class, she has quickly become a favorite of mine. One thing that I like about this trailer is the inclusion of her emotional side, instead of being just a straight survival plot, she has a reason to survive other than just human nature. Really looking forward to this when it drops into theaters on March 23, 2012. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Watch the Dark Trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman

November 11, 2011 in Movie Blog, Movie News, Trailers, Videos

submit to reddit

I would never have guessed that a Snow White movie could look so damn good. Snow White and the Huntsman is a darker, more action-fantasy take on the tale than previous tellings. It’s very reminiscent of Lord of the Rings in look and tone and has a very made by Peter Jackson feel to it. Charlize Theron looks amazing as the evil queen and Thor‘s Chris Hemsworth couldn’t be a better fit for the huntsman. Kristen Stewart looks to be a nice choice for Snow White, but this trailer doesn’t focus on her character, instead pushing the evil queen’s side of the story. In future trailers we’ll get to see more of Snow White, even so for now I’m pretty much sold.

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Charlize Theron) out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power. The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson steps in for Brendan Fraser in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. I was a fan of the first film, especially since I’m a big Fraser fan and his name in that movie was Trevor Anderson. This was really one of the first movies to reintroduce 3D to the masses, long before Avatar did it with a much larger budget. This is the type of family fare The Rock should have been doing instead of that stint at Disney, and even then he should sandwich them in between hard action flicks. The film also includes Josh Hutcherson reprising his role from the first, Michael Caine as the grandfather, Luis Guzman as a pilot, and Vanessa Hudgens as the love interest (for Josh, not Dwayne – although that would’ve been a hell of a twist).

New Mission Impossible 4 – Ghost Protocol (2011) Trailer

After news that six minutes of The Dark Knight Rises will be featured on 70mm prints of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol in IMAX theaters you’d think there’d be little else needed to get people to go check it out, but this new trailer gives us many more reasons. If you’re somehow upset over the changes to the Bond series, MI:4 is set to swoop in and take its place. With sleek action and state of the art gadgetry this advert is reminiscent of a Pierce Brosnan Bond movie. Brad Bird’s direction looks spot on and continuing with the running gag of Tom Cruise’s Hunt coming so close to death right in the beginning and getting it out of the way is a strong choice (that gag is wearing on me). The failure of summer movies to deliver great action might just be made up here. This go around the team consists of Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Jeremy Renner as Brandt, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, and Paula Patton as Jane Carter. Will you be catching the early IMAX showings (specifically in the real IMAX theaters for Dark Knight footage)?

The Avengers (2012) – Trailer

It’s finally arrived, the trailer for Marvel’s The Avengers! I have to say it doesn’t necessarily look bad, but having all those heroes together does make it seem a little fake. Blending these mythologies, no matter how cleverly done (and I’m a Joss Whedon fan as well), may simply be undoable on any believable scale. We talked earlier about some set pics that looked like the heroes were fans dressed up for comic-con (the EW Avenger pics did look better though) and this trailer doesn’t really help those thoughts. Also interesting that the trailer heavily features Robert Downey Jr, seeing as Iron Man is the top earner here it’s no surprise. I wonder if that plays into the movie at all, is Iron Man featured in the film more than the others? No look at the baddies here, just a simple voice-over, so there is more to look forward to when real trailers hit later. The Avengers is set to release May 4, 2012 and stars Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Samuel L Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and is directed by Joss Whedon.

CONTRABAND (2012) – Images and Trailer

Mark Wahlberg is at it again this time playing another good-guy crook that is forced to pull off a heist in order to get his loved one out of a tight spot. This trailer plays well but it’s awfully reminiscent of The Town and even Wahlberg’s The Italian Job. Maybe this is a cinematic apology for the lack of a follow up to that film. CONTRABAND hits theaters stateside on Jan 13, 2012.

Official synopsis below…

Mark Wahlberg leads the cast of Contraband, a fast-paced thriller about a man trying to stay out of a world he worked so hard to leave behind and the family he’ll do anything to protect. Set in New Orleans, the film explores the cutthroat underground world of international smuggling — full of desperate criminals and corrupt officials, high-stakes and big payoffs — where loyalty rarely exists and death is one wrong turn away. Chris Farraday (Wahlberg) long ago abandoned his life of crime, but after his brother-in-law, Andy (Caleb Landry Jones), botches a drug deal for his ruthless boss, Tim Briggs (Giovanni Ribisi), Chris is forced back into doing what he does best — running contraband — to settle Andy’s debt. Chris is a legendary smuggler and quickly assembles a crew with the help of his best friend, Sebastian (Ben Foster), for one final run to Panama and back, hoping to return with millions in counterfeit bills. Things quickly fall apart and with only hours to reach the cash, Chris must use his rusty skills to successfully navigate a treacherous criminal network of brutal drug lords, cops and hit men before his wife, Kate (Kate Beckinsale), and sons become their target.

Don Coscarelli (Beastmaster, Phantasm I – IV, Bubba Ho-Tep, Incident on and Off a Mountain Road, yes I’m a fan) returns from over a half-decade hiatus to helm John Dies at the End, based on the David Wong novel of the same name. This is a perfect match for Coscarelli, who’s work is often very strange and much of it takes place in other worlds. I would best compare this trailer to a Richard Kelly or Terry Gilliam film- strange, stranger and ever more strange. If you were a fan of Donnie Darko chances are this trailer will excite you.

It’s a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. On the street they call it Soy Sauce, and users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John and David, a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can’t.

When the Premium Rush trailer first starts it seems very inspired by the look and feel of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies (David Koepp, the writer/director, did write the first Spider-Man). Then we get into the meat of the film and what we have here is an accidental (or maybe Koepp is a big fan) sequel to Gleaming the Cube. Seriously, replace Christian Slater on his skateboard with Joseph Gordon-Levitt on his fixed gear bicycle and they’re almost the same movie. As a matter of fact both trailers go way too over the top in the representation of the films as I’m sure Premium Rush is in noway as exciting as this extremely cut up trailer wants to be. Check ‘em both out below and let us know what you think. Premium Rush releases into theaters January 13, 2012.
