With ‘Predators’ decent first weekend haul of $24 million, let’s see how it stacks up against the other predator movies and what we might expect from it. ‘Predator’ and ‘Alien vs Predator’ stack up about the same. Both are originals, even though ‘Alien vs Predator’ uses established characters. The big difference here being when audiences go to see films during their run. When ‘Predator’ came out in 1987 it’s obvious that people continued to see the movie throughout it’s run, but in 2004 when ‘AVP’ arrived it was heavily front loaded. Both of the sequels, ‘Predator 2’ and ‘Alien vs Predator 2’ are about on par as well, earning approximately half of their predecessor’s total gross.
Where does that leave ‘Predators’? While it matched the original ‘Predator’ in opening weekend, it’s hard to say that it will have the staying power in today’s market to hit triple digits for its total domestic run, it will most likely dwindle out around the $80-$90 million mark.

It’s very doubtful it will cross the $100 million mark at this point. It has the ability to get to Predator’s almost $60 million gross (unadjusted), but it will have sold half the amount of tickets to get there.
I think new Predators movie will match the original, and might even pass it at the box office. The first one have Arnold, who’s audience was use to shoot -up type action flick. While the new Predators movie have a host of stars, most noticeably Adrien Brody, who can reach a much broader audience.
