After the unimpressive (oh hell, I outright hated it) Resident Evil: Afterlife, this movie looks to follow the tone set by that predecessor. Resident Evil: Retribution seems like a strange amalgamation of past zombie flicks. There’s even a shot in this trailer that’s reminiscent of the beginning of 2004’s Dawn of the Dead, this movie will play more into Alice’s mysterious past.
I will say that Paul WS Anderson is good with action, it’s just the story that’s not his strong point, and when he fails at it, he fails hard. To be fair I didn’t see Afterlife in 3D in theaters, I saw it at home on 2D DVD. Jason has told me that the 3D theatrical experience really made that movie, and I’m guessing the same will hold true for Retribution.
This will be the second major franchise that Michelle Rodriguez returns to after 2009’s Fast & Furious. Both of those franchises went on without her character for a few films, going by this standard she should also return in Avatar 4 in 2020. Regardless check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
