Where to watch Doll Killer 3
Picking up on the same night as its predecessor, Charlie Crandall stumbles upon a Slumber Party in progress and decides to crash it. However, the spirit of his doll Audra lives on and has a score to settle with him.
The Doll Killer franchise is definitely Ferguson’s Halloween, in my opinion. That’s not just because he uses the hospital in Halloween 2 as a location in Doll Killer 3, or that the first movie took place during Halloween week.
Much like Halloween‘s Michael Myers, Doll Killer‘s Charlie Crandall is an unstoppable, plodding along, slasher that kills everyone that comes within walking distance. And he does his slashing to a pulsating electronic score, which completes to perfection the old school slasher aesthetic.
While a slasher is what these movies are at heart, Ferguson puts his own spin on it with a creepy ass doll and witchcraft. Honestly The Asylum couldn’t mockbuster the Halloween franchise any better.
While I enjoyed the side stories and acting from the other characters and actors, it’s Breana Mitchell’s Stephanie and Jarad Allen’s Crandall that I’m more than willing to come back to the well for.
The Doll Killer films are some of Ferguson’s best directing and storytelling. He’s created a rich world for Crandall to slash in and Doll killer 3 only adds to that. From what I’ve seen so far I think his strongest horror sub-genre is slasher, although for someone as prolific as Dustin Ferguson is (he has 130+ director credits on IMDb at the time of writing this review), and with as little of his entire directing career I’ve seen so far, my opinion is sure to change.
I do hope we get more installments in this series, and bringing back Breana Mitchell and Jarad Allen is a must. At this point they are practically the embodiment of the franchise, and if we must move on, there should at least be a “hand-off” flick.
A bloody head rolling ending makes Doll Killer 3 far more satisfying than Halloween Kills. If you like low / no budget, shot on video (or in this case phone) horror movies, definitely give the Doll Killer series a shot.
I should mention that while I am credited as an Associate Producer on the movie, I had nothing to do with the making of the film and only provided funding via purchasing movies from the SCS store. Essentially making me nothing much of a producer here, and not much more than an audience member.
