Where to watch Gods of Egypt
Set, the merciless god of darkness, has taken over the throne of Egypt and plunged the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. Few dare to rebel against him. A young thief, whose love was taken captive by the god, seeks to dethrone and defeat Set with the aid of the powerful god Horus.
I must admit that I harbor a certain love for preposterous adventure movies. The Gods of Egypt is definitely a movie that falls into the preposterous category. I can’t justify an intellectual argument in its favor, except that it sets out to tell a rousing tale and succeeds in entertaining. And while I can see that the script is cliched, the direction is competent, and the actors are hamming it up, I was still thoroughly delighted by the entire enterprise. It’s no jewel, but it’s much more entertaining and better-looking than that trashy Clash of the Titans remake.
Gods of Egypt has a sort of gaudy gloss. It’s evident that a lot of money went into producing this spectacular-looking film, and the money is on screen. Every scene is rich in visual texture, giving audiences something to gaze upon even when the story intermittently fails.
