The Brady Bunch Movie (1995) – Review

Where to watch The Brady Bunch Movie

3 Stars

Mike Brady and his wife, Carol, have just only one week to come up with $20,000 in back taxes or their house is sold and they’ll have no choice but to move. And it’s up to their kids to secretly raise money and save the house before they lose it to their scheming neighbor, Larry Dittmeyer.

The Brady Bunch Movie deserves to be mentioned alongside Wayne’s World and The Addams Family as model examples of television adaptations to films. While the film satires the California lifestyle circa the 1990s and pokes fun at the innocence of the Brady family unit, it’s not mean-spirited or cynical; the movie is so pleasant and upbeat that it’s impossible not to be tickled by the goofiness of it all.

Betty Thomas, her department heads, and crew show their affinity for the source material evidenced by the care they have given in their loving recreation of sets, cast, music, and every other aspect of the seminal television series. I’m not a fan of the show but that didn’t stop me from enjoying this clever comedy with superb performances from a cast of mimics.
