Where to watch Supernova
Supernova chronicles the search and rescue patrol of a medical ship in deep space in the early 22nd century and its six-member crew which includes a captain and pilot, a co-pilot, a medical officer, a medical technician, a search and rescue.
Supernova was such a troubled production; three directors tried to salvage it, and while unsuccessful, it’s almost impressive; it hangs together as well as it does. The combined talent squandered in this picture is staggering, including the art departments and special effects teams. Only unverified rumors have ever surfaced over the film’s original story and intent; the version that played in theaters nationwide is reportedly far removed from the creator’s initial vision.
Sleek production designs and the efforts of James Spader are enough to keep the viewer’s attention even as the story grows more ludicrous with each progressing scene. Supernova begins with an awkwardly pieced-together opening sequence introducing the main and supporting characters, causing an early disorientation that never fully dissipates. Angela Bassett makes an unfortunate choice to play her role in a mechanical and detached way that makes her seem disinterested. Who knows? Maybe she is; I know I was when Supernova reached its laughable narrative climax.
