Original Air Date: 10/22/1988 – “Back to Oblivion”

The third episode of the first season of “The Adventures of Superboy” is the dullest so far. It seems to have been the cheapest to produce as well, as only a few locations are used, with most of the action taking place at an auto junkyard. In this episode, Superboy is noticeably absent. While he still makes the required two appearances per episode, the story primarily focuses on Lana and TJ as the leads.

This episode has a lethargic pace and features what appears to be the weakest performance from Abe Vigoda in recent memory. An awkward dialogue exchange between Lana and Clark serves as a public service announcement against crack cocaine, which was a significant issue in the country at the time. However, discussing drunk driving would have made more sense. “Back to Oblivion” feels like a filler episode that struggles to engage viewers, even at its brief 22-minute runtime.
