Uwe Boll’s improbable trilogy concludes with this ultra-low budget entry subtitled: The Last Mission. That is a swell promise since this series is now so far removed from the source material that started the franchise it’s embarrassing to even associate the name with this picture. Boll’s latest muse is Australian beefcake Dominic Purcell, this the fourth pairing of director and star and it is by far the weakest collaboration between the two.

Purcell is Hazen Kaine an emotionally distraught war veteran turned mercenary/contract killer. Mentally broken from the death of his family, he carries out vicious attacks with little thought or care. Until one afternoon during a kidnapping, Hazen steals a valuable necklace from one of his victims. It is a magical medallion that matches a tribal tattoo on Kaine’s left forearm. The combination opens a portal and sucks the modern killer back into the medieval times. In this past land our hero must adapt to the ancient way of life and becomes entangled in a feud between a dethroned king and his treacherous brother who claims to be the rightful heir to the throne.

The previous sequel also used the time-travel element that originated with A Knight in King Arthur’s Court and more recently Army of Darkness. Each film in the series has featured a different lead actor, and varying story-lines. The first was a straight forward fantasy epic, the second turned into a self mocking parody and the latest is just plain bland and boring. There is no reason to view this other than being a Uwe Boll completest.
