Where to watch Lady Dragon 2
A woman seeks revenge on the men who raped her and murdered her husband.
Why is Cynthia Rothrock repeatedly cast as characters subject to sexual assault and revenge-driven plots in films directed by David Worth? Lady Dragon 2, disconnected from its predecessor, stands out for its nonsensical plot—a feat considering Rothrock’s eccentric roles, such as in the dubbed Hong Kong sci-fi film The Magic Crystal. Rothrock, the elite action heroine of the 1980s and ’90s, returns as the titular fighter. This time, the antagonist is played by Billy Drago, with Sam J. Jones’ addition as a modest upgrade from the first installment. However, the obvious and misplaced A Clockwork Orange references undermine the film.
There isn’t much action or martial arts mayhem in the film until the last 20 minutes or so; the preceding 60 minutes are full of scenes in which Rothrock is repeatedly subjected to physical and mental assault at knifepoint by Drago and Jones. The story makes no sense, and the final scene totally negates the point of the entire movie. Lady Dragon 2 is more well-made than Lady Dragon, and that’s frustrating because it’s a tedious, unpleasant step back from the low bar set by the first film in the series.
