Grown Ups (2010) – Review

Where to watch Grown Ups

3 Stars

Adam Sandler and his friends are back in this lightweight mid-summer comedy about five infantile men in their 40s who reunite for the funeral of their childhood basketball coach. A handful of fitfully funny scenes are buried in the films 100 minute running time. Outside of a couple of ‘gross-out’ gags, the film is relatively tame in comparison to most Sandler vehicles. Maybe he’s growing up, too often the film goes for a pleasant, family friendly tone when the material could have been so much better with a more aggressive and adult comedic touch. Sandler is coming precariously close to Eddie Murphy ‘Kiddie-film’ territory here. What saves the film and kept me laughing though is the relaxed chemistry among Sandler’s posse, everybody seems to be almost playing themselves and that is actually one of the films greatest assets. Lower the rating 1/2* if your not a fan of Sandler’s recent output.

  1. I agree, Sandler has been alittle blah lately,, but I love Kevin James. I think I’m gonna see this and The other Guys!

  2. I am undecided a to whether to see this. I’m one who hasn’t enjoyed Sandler’s latest offerings….so I may wait for DVD. Thanks for the review! =)
