Tony Scott signs on to direct ‘Top Gun 2’ – News

Tony Scott director of the original ‘Top Gun’ has officially signed-on to direct the sequel. No word yet if Tom Cruise will reprise his signature role as Pete Mitchell aka ‘Maverick’. Christopher McQuarrie (Usual Suspects, Valkyrie) is a name that has been thrown around recently as a possible writer for the long in development project. However Director Scott has is own ideas on the subject, he was quoted as saying “These computer geeks — these kids play war games in a trailer in Fallon, Nevada and if we ever went to war or were in the Middle East or the Far East or wherever it is, these guys can actually fly drones. They are unmanned aircraft. They operate them and then they party all night.”

Referring to the death of manned aerial combat and the rise in high-tech war-games inside the American Military. Scott is a busy man with two projects in pre-production already it looks like ‘Top Gun 2’ wouldn’t start production until 2012.

Viper: Good morning, gentlemen, the temperature is 110 degrees.
    Wolfman: Holy shit, it’s Viper!
    Goose: Viper’s up here, great… oh shit…
Maverick:Great, he’s probably saying, “Holy shit, it’s Maverick and Goose.”
Goose: Yeah, I’m sure he’s saying that.
