After such a success with ‘The Fighter’s seven Academy Awards nominations and two wins it’s no wonder Mark Wahlberg is talking up a sequel. One of our major issues with ‘The Fighter’ was that it was all about Mickey Ward and his family, which does make for a compelling movie but what we really wanted to see was Ward and Gatti.
Wahlberg told EW, “I got bit by the bug, and now I’m trying to plant the idea in everyone’s head that we should do — not five or six Fighters like Rocky — but one more because the big thing that Micky Ward was famous for was his three epic battles with Arturo Gatti. So we’re talking about possibly taking one more run at it.” – http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/03/15/mark-wahlberg-the-fighter-bluray/
Knowing how hard and long he pushed just to get the original film cast and into production there’s a real possibility that this could happen. He goes on to say, “Everybody had such an amazing experience making the movie that I can’t imagine they wouldn’t want to go back. But it’s still kind in the early stages.” Which sounds like he hasn’t really put out feelers to all the cast, Melissa Leo will probably return, Christian Bale would be the wild card.
