Wade Wilson aka Deadpool is one of my favorite comic book characters of all time. Unfortunately, like all Deadpool fans I was devastated by the way he was portrayed in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). No scratch that, I wasn’t devastated, I was pissed. They did an absolutely horrendous job with the character in the film, and part of me hoped the whole project would just crawl into a corner and die. Deep down, however, I knew that if done right a Deadpool film could be one of the best comic book movies ever made. It seems producer Lauren Shuler Donner agrees. At the resent press junket for the release of X:Men: First Class on DVD and Blu-ray Shuler had quite a bit to say about the film.
“Yes, he was treated totally wrong in the Wolverine film, and yes, we will redeem him… We’re working on getting it ready, and presenting some things to the studio, cause we’re gonna give it a little bit of a different look. It’s a different kind of movie. If you know Deadpool…it’s true to Deadpool. So you know, it’ll be violent, and outrageous, and funny, and all that. So we’re sort of putting it all together now.”
Despite the resent Green Lantern flop, Ryan Reynolds is still set to play the quick-witted assassin in the film. Reynolds did a decent job as Wade Wilson in the early parts of the Wolverine film and although I would prefer a lesser-known actor, Reynolds seems to fit with Deadpool’s comical style.
Tim Miller is committed to direct the film and Rhett Reese (Zombieland, G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation) is set to write the screenplay.
