Hellraiser: Judgment (2018) – Review

Where to watch Hellraiser: Judgment

3 Stars

Perhaps this one should have been retitled, Interview with a Cenobite. The filmmakers have taken the unusual route of jettisoning the wooden puzzle box, a hallmark of the series, and instead turn Pinhead and his cohorts into gate-keepers and serial killers. The Hellraiser series has an uneven history. The first and third films are the franchise highpoints. The fourth is an intriguing mess, and a few of the direct-to-DVD sequels are competent but don’t feel like true parts of the Hellraiser film canon. Judgment is a righting of the proverbial ship and resets the series after the disastrous last outing. Nightmare on Elm St. star Heather Langenkamp jumps from one classic horror franchise to another. Langenkamp’s effortless charm and girl next door vibe is reminiscent of original Hellraiser actress Ashley Lawrence.
