The Scorpion King: Book of Souls (2018) – Review

Where to watch The Scorpion King: Book of Souls

1 1/2 Stars

The fifth installment of the unlikely Scorpion King franchise is a low-brow straight-to-DVD dud that is so directive that I had more fun referencing the films being ripped off than actually following the events onscreen. Zach McGowan is the third actor to play the role and he is the least suited for the job. I like McGowan and he is great in other films but he is totally miscast here. He would have made a great villain in the film had they chosen to stick with Victor Webster who headlined the last two entries. The Scorpion King: Book of Souls is a frantic and thoroughly messy movie that never hits the target.

There is a certain audience out there for this kind of film. Usually, I count myself amongst them, for I’m a fan of titles like Deathstalker 2, Hercules, and The Blade Master. These imports are known for outlandish story arcs, loads of nudity and badly choreographed action sequences. All that’s missing from Scorpion King 5 is the gratuitous nudity.

Director: Don Michael Paul
