Shadow Force (1992) – Review

Where to watch Shadow Force

2 Stars

Policemen by Day – Assassins at Night. A story all too familiar yet amazing to see. Follow the daily lives of corrupt policemen as they make a fortune as assassins.

Shadow Force is an independently produced action thriller lensed in Texas and starring a locally grown, unknown cast and TV star, Dirk Benedict. The narrative is on the level of a mediocre Walker, Texas Ranger episode, although that show at least had a punch-up every ten minutes or so. The lack of any solid action sequences makes this more of a drama than anything resembling Dirty Harry,Get Carter, or any number of other revenge movies.

The lean running time suggests a lack of plotting or budget constraints. That’s not to say the movie isn’t fun; there is a fun sequence set in a woodsy cabin in which the good guys are trying to keep the bad guys out. Nothing else in the movie is able to top this set-piece, and the climactic battle between Benedict and the villain is mishandled and sloppy. Shadow Force is only for die-hard Dirk Benedict aficionados.
