Capital Punishment (1991) – Review

Where to watch Capital Punishment

2 Stars

Project K.I.C.K was a drug given to cattle to make them grow quicker, if the meat is eaten from these cattle it has horrible side effects. James is a martial artist hired by the DEA to find to a dealer his former Master who is trying to start selling the drug in an American. But little does James know not is what it seems.

Capital Punishment and a handful of the early Gary Daniels movies showcase the former kickboxer turned action hero in vehicles that weren’t quite sure how to best use the actor. The production values are typically threadbare, and the action is sparse in these movies. Once Mr. Daniels joined his screen talents with B-Movie mega-producers PM Entertainment, the quality of his films rose substantially. Those films, produced under the watchful eye of filmmakers Pepin and Mehri and featuring stunt work by Marvel’s go-to guy, Spiro Razatos, are outstanding genre films that defined the straight-to-video era. Capital Punishment is a forgettable Gary Daniels movie with an overly complicated plot that doesn’t make much sense.

American Ninja’s Tadashi Yamashita appears as the lead villain and former mentor to Mr. Daniels’ character. It’s a pleasure to see this actor outside of a Cannon Films production. The agility and physique of Gary Daniels are both on prominent display throughout the film’s (barely feature-length) running time. Still, this isn’t enough to recommend this primary offering from the English kickboxer.
