Vin Diesel is set to reunite with series originator Rob Cohen on a third installment in the dormant ‘XXX’ franchise. This project has been in development for quite awhile now. Sony is out as distributor after the disappointment of the 2005 sequel so Paramount is setting up the project under their banner. Unlike the recent 3D film ‘Titans’ that was converted after the fact. This new ‘XXX’ will be shot with 3d cameras resulting in an experience closer to ‘Avatar’ than ‘Alice’. Shooting will begin later this year after Diesel finishes filming the Fifth entry in the ‘Fast and Furious’ series. Look for a late 2011 or early 2012 release date.
I am surprised Rob Cohen came back since he has a personal rule of never directing a sequel of a movie he has already directed. I believe he might be chomping at the bit to get on the 3D bandwagon. Not that that is a bad thing.
It will be interesting to see “real” 3D make the jump to action movies. Hopefully they don’t half ass this and really try to take it to the next level.
Anyone have any opinion on Vin Diesels career at this point? Do you think he still has a bright future ahead of him?
