Knight and Day (2010) – Review

3 Stars

Tom Cruise was born to play this role. Just looking at him makes you wonder if this cool, calm and collected person can really be crazy. Knight and Day uses this to great effect. Cruise plays an FBI agent who is protecting a young genius that has created a power source that never dries up. All the while the film keeps you guessing as to Cruise’s true intent as he racks up a body count and the FBI pursues him.

Cameron Diaz plays the fish out of water character very well; this coupled with Cruise’s insane coolness under pressure and high antics espionage action moves makes Knight and Day a thrill and joy to watch. Diaz and Cruise remind me how important actor pairing in romantic-action-comedies can be. Much like the hit Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie pairing in ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’.

This movies straddles the line between absurdity and being too serious perfectly. Sure it goes over the edge every now and then, but it does so with charm. James Mangold directs the action sequences well. To put it simply, this is the goofiest and funnest ‘Mission Impossible’ movie to hit theaters yet.

Director: James Mangold
